10ga choke question

I know that I can't shoot steel out of a fixed factory full choke but what about Hevi-shot or one of the other "heavier than lead" loads?  I have an opportunity to buy a used 10ga with the fixed full choke for $125.  If I can't use it with anything thats legal for waterfowl then it's not worth it and I'll keep looking.

Who told you that you cant shoot steel shot through that fixed full choke? I'd get the serial# and call CS just to be sure but I don't think it would hurt anything. You could certainly shoot bizmuth through it. Realisticly you are not going to shoot enough steel out of a single shot waterfowl gun to shoot the choke out of it.You could always have a smith open the choke up to mod. Steel it going to pattern pretty tight through that full choke

I have seen the damage first hand that steel can do to a barrel with too much constriction.  I think shooting Bismuth may be the answer.  You are probably right though, I doubt I would shoot enough steel through it to make a difference but I don't want to risk it.  I will mostly be using it for coyotes and turkeys with lead or copper plated lead shot.  I think I will put it on layaway till I get paid and then pick it up.
