35 Whelen

I actually figure to reform 30-06 if I ever find a gun.  Any of you do this?  Is there a need to open the neck first?  All I have converted so far is .270 into .25-06, going smaller and having to trim.  That really wasn't worth it with all the work.  Whelen on the other hand is more costly and apparently of questionable quality right now.  I have never bought a factory .45-70--contained myself, got dies, brass, and all and handloaded everything I ever used.
just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not watching you

The 35 Whelen is my all time favorite smallbore! 99% of my entertainment shooting is done at 45 caliber and above using cast bullets; however, the 35 Whelen is nearly everything anyone could want out of a tiny tube. If you reload you will find it to be a nearly perfect playground.

Regarding using 30-06 as a base for your 35 Whelen case supply chain – why not, that is what we did for 60 years before the cartridge companies had sense enough to mint the real thing.  Most of my Whelen friends do it in one neck sizing pass using a good lube, but I am a prude and do it in two passes using an 8 mm neck sizing operation then moving on to the regular 35 Whelen dies. You may also use 338 WM neck sizing if you do not have an 8 mm.

I have a collection of 35 Whelen rifles but the ones I reach for most often is the Rem 700 CDL and Rem 7600 (which will lay down about 17,000 ft/lbs ME in 1.5 seconds for you power freaks)

That is about all I know about smallbores. Good luck.
