new to me .243
« on: December 31, 2006, 05:10:45 PM »
I just bought a new handi-rifle. ;DThis one has what looks to me to be a laminated stock it's stained to look like plain walnut ,not the normal multi-hued stock,22" standard weight bbl (a.24 caliber barrel still looks awfully beefy to me,even in a sporter contour).
It looks as though it spent it's life as a safe queen. And from near I can tell it was made in '04,it has a NU serial code. It came with leupold 3-9x40 rifleman scope.I gave $325.00 for it,did I do o.k.?  What should I expect his rifle accuracy wise?I'll be using winchestrer 100gr. I bought one box on the way home.
I will be on the lookout for brass has anyone used .308 brass necked down in their .243?

I think you will be pleased with it. I own a 243 bull barrel and it shoots very well with factory Winchester 80 grain. I haven't shot 100 grain in mine but I'm sure allot of people here have. I would say you did good on the price with the scope you got with it. Charlie

Congrats on the new .243, Hank!! Mine is a bull barrel Ultra Varmint also, shoots the Federal 95gr Fusion and 100gr Power Shoks moa or better, I'd try different ammo to see what shoots best, following the accurizing help and cleaning and lapping in the FAQs and Help sticky, then let us know how it shoots. ;) It may shoot really good right out of the box, it may take some break-in time and/or trying different ammo to see what shoots good.

As said above with that scope, you did well.
I think you will like that caliber. ;D

I had one and wish I would have kept it. Mine shot the remington core-loks and accutips really well. There were propbably better but the were the only ones I tried.
