Bought a Glenfield 30A
« on: January 12, 2007, 11:34:52 AM »
After looking at it a dozen times over a period of about a year, I put it on layaway today.  I've never been much of a Marlin fan but the short magazine tube really looked cool to me.  It's tight and shows a little bluing wear.  The stock is blond (Birch)with a coat of Truoil on it.  I'll probably refinish the stock.  I need a scope base.  It just has the empty holes right now.  I keep thinking about shortening the barrel .........

I think I'm going to get a Marlin Guide Gun next.

Nice! Some of those even have the Ballard rifling that Marlin has now (mostly) gone back to. May want to check it before you cut the barrel. You can usually pick up a walnut stock pretty cheap on eBay if you don't want to refinish. I've put Weaver bases on mine, as I really like their 4x4 rings.

Guide Gun next - Careful it's addictive! ;D

I found one as well, at a great price...... I have to fill them screw holes with something so, I guess it will be screws to hold a 336 scope mount.  I put a scope on mine simply because my eyes are getting older and iron sights are gettin fuzzy  ;D

Swampman - got a Tasco 3x9 scope, rings and base all set up for your Glenfield. Just purchased a Glenfield 30 and have no need for this setup. Will screw right on. Contact me if you are interested.
