Wynn,
Why not consider the .308. Them and the 7-08 are ballistic brothers in the field. You have more options in the 308. If your not a reloader, then managed rounds would be softer. If you reload, loading her up some beginning loads would give you 300 Savage ballistics.
After saying all of this try the following:
1-Start to teach her marksmanship with dry fire drilills.
2-In the dry fire drills , simulate recoil by grasping the barrel and shoving it back into her shoulder to simulate recoil.
3-Make sure the rifle fits her. LOP should be about 12.5" and weight of rifle all up should not exceed 7.5 lbs with scope and sling.
4-When introducing her to live fire, make sure she has good eye and ear protection.
5-In live fire, make shooting strings short, not more than 3 rounds without a break.
6-Spend a lot of time in the dry fire sessions. She should grasp the concepts of "open suprise break" and "calling your shot" before being introduced to "live fire". These concepts are best taught in dry fire sessions without the distractions of muzzle blast and recoil.
7-Dry fire practice cqn get boring, so limit the sessions to about 10 minutes a day.
