Most hunters I know, including myself, don't clean a deer rifle during the season once it's been sighted in, unless bad weather requires it. Once it's fouled, keep it that way unless the firearm gets wet. ;) Clean it after the season.

Same thing!! If you want it to be accurate the first shot the next time you use it, that's the way it needs to be.  ;)

My 30-06, .17HMR, and my .223 Handi get cleaned once a year maybe.  Some years I'll clean them twice.  By clean I mean running a wire brush through the bore with some bore cleaner.  Then patches till they are clean.  Some WD-40 and a clean patch.  That's it.  If the bore gets wet, or dusty, I run WD-40 and a patch through the bore.  Otherwise, I just shoot them.  Some weeks three of four shots, other weeks 30 or 40 shots.  I just never get around to cleaning them, I'm too busy shooting them.  All my other guns get cleaned everytime they are used.  But not my favorite Handi's.

Would that be considered abuse?  Got to go, my .17 is screaming "abuse me, abuse me".  I see a Fox in the back through the window.  Bye

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

All i do is run a dry patch down the barrel to remove any un-burnt powder and then wipe the outside down with an oily rag .

Not the same question but almost.

If JB bore cleaning compound was initally utilized for bore break-in and the gun is now shooting well,  should it used again and when?  If at all?

Thank you in advance.

Its main use is cleaning fouling from the bore.
