110grain 30.06 vmax load
« on: January 02, 2007, 01:03:25 AM »
I am considering using the vmax 110 grain bullet for coyotes with my 30.06. Can someone suggest some starting loads and powders that work well with this bullet. The closest info I can find is for a 110 grain hollowpoint in my Lymans's 37th ed. would these loads be acceptable with this bullet?

Years ago I worked up some varmint loads for the 06. The litest bullet I found that would shoot accurately past 100 yrds was the 130 gr. Speer HP. It held it accuracy as far as you could guess the hold over. It`s not a good bullet for hide hunting though as it blows some very big holes.
As for loading data the starting data for the HP should be good enough to start with for the v-max also. Just watch for presure signs as you work up your load.

Dude, Lyman is on the 48th edition now.  I am sorta convinced that some past loads are "lawyered" down, but I REALLY wouldn't trust a manual that old either way.  Besides, there are too many variables- bearing surface, ogive (distance to lands), etc.  Call Hornady and ask for fax of the page for 110 VMAX in 30-06.
