Is Hoppe's 9 Plus.. Black Powder Solvent and Patch Lubricant The stuff I need to place on Cleaning patches to clean the Bore on my TC Omega?

Will it be okay to Clean my Breech now after 12 shots?

I was goin to clean it with Brake parts cleaner and then Add new Gorilla Grease on the threads and install it back in the breech hole on the gun....

Also I noticed today that Capper that screws on the Pyrodex seems to have a much larger Opening to fill my powder measuring tubes with... Do Flash powder holders have a smaller brass funnel tip?


As I want to pick one up...

Also got the 2007 4x2 suzuki Ozark stuck again today.. and got covered in mud and soupy water. I need to Install my winch on it soon..

This is how I clean my Encores and it will work great for your Omega.

I remover the breech plug and put it in a small container with some Multi-purpose Windex with vinegar. I let it soak while I clean the barrel.  I then run a patch soaked with the Multi-purpose Windex with vinegar down the barrel, I then run a brush down the barrel and follow up with a dray patch. I keep using a dry patch tell it come out clean. I then run a patch with some break free down the barrel followed by a patch with some bore butter.
Now barrel is done, I remove the breech plug from the Multi-purpose Windex with vinegar and use a q-tip to clean it up, I run a pick in the flash hole and then blow air through it to dry the flash hole. I put some Shooters Choice high temp grease on the breech plug and reinstall it back into the breech. I tighten it down then back it off. Gun is ready to put up. Less than 10 minutes.

Don't forget to clean the outside of the barrel too. You get traces of corrosive powder on the outside of the barrel that needs to be cleaned off and then protected with something like Break-Free. Also wipe down your stock with some warm soapy water on a rag to remove any powder residue.

I still clean all my muzzleloaders the old fashioned way, with hot soapy water. I take a bucket with hot water and a few drops of Dawn. Stick the breech plug in the bucket...then put the muzzle end of the barrel in the bucket and using a 33" knight range rod and a wet patch...siphon the hot water up the barrel by drawing the patch up and down the bore...you will want a glove or towel on the hand you have on the barrel...it will get very hot. After the bore is clean...rinse the same way with hot water...by getting the bore VERY hot, the heat will evaporate the water. Next run some dry patches...then oil the bore with Break-Free. Remove breech plug from hot water and clean, re-grease, install.

When you are ready to shoot again...run a dry patch to remove most of the oil...then run a patch with alcohol to remove all traces of oil. You can follow with one more dry patch, then fire a primer to clear the flash hole.

I like Shooters or Butch's Bore Shine. Keeps everything to a minimum. Main thing is to use a bore brush and large patches. Be wary of copper buildup. If using it inside your bore, it will eventually buildup and turn accuracy south. If using 120-150 grains of powder, be wary of plastic residue caught in your rifling. It may be a good idea to get some copper solvent and some plastic wad solvent to keep around the house for a more thorough cleaning every 50 shots or-so.

Redhawk, thanks.. I have heard of some using Vinager to rust thier traps so they would take a good coat of dye.....

Is Multi Purpose Windex different then Normal windex used to clean glass with? Thanks alot...

Busta, I have heard alot about the soupy hot water and such, Yet never understood why one would place steel in water..... Do I need to Unbolt the stock first?
Also I would be Unbolting my  bipod Or flipping the legs out so it sets on the Bucket top and tip of barrel in the water...


I just cleaned my TC Omega after 12 shots today....

NEXT Question----- HOW do ya get that  Solfur SMELL out of the House.. he he he he..

daughter just came out and said ya just had to cut one didn't ya dad.. I Blamed it all on the gun and the spent powder she didn't beleave me....
So I had to have her smell the wire brush from the barrel....

I think I may need some inscents,candles,fabreeze or room deoderizer with the daughter and wife around.. laughing so hard...

I Don't mind it at all, as I work with dead animal hides and pelts each day at work and flesh them all..some sat to long before fleshing.... and some dropped off fresh need to be scraped.. But thats a different story..

I Ran the wire brush down the barrel about 4 times to break up stuff, then 2 patches with that Hoppe's 9 plus , Black Powder Solvent and Patch Lubricant after I shoot it up...
then about 10-13 clean dry patches. ..the patches are coming out clean now...

do I coat the inner barrel with something now or leave it dry?

would this Hoppe's 9 plus work on a rag to  clean off the barrel outside with also?

As I don't have any other solutions here... and with names I could atless search for the correct stuff.. How about some Lubricated Patches for cleaning in the field after that first shot?

Or doesn't all clean between shots in the field ?

as I watched some locals this deer season after the one shot his omega he ran 1 blue round patch threw the barrel,then two that where purple in color... and then he dry fired a 209 primer and reloaded the gun....

Is that commen?

Bill Mayham, Thanks..that is good to know..as I will just use sabots in my Omega with the Rifling...

See alot of this is so new to me.. years of just a few sweeps with a wire brush and a few pushes with a cloth in the shotguns and rifles ... Had me set in the ways of this is okay and cleaned and move on... Muzzle Loaders are a Bit more Importine to clean and double check...Thanks alot..

I shall check into more of these solvents and lubracates all mention....

Also one of these weekends I might bump into them two local brothers that for years been using a .45 caliber Omega and 2 different .50 caliber Omega's....



It sure does become a Dirty Job....

So I may call in that Mike Rowe  from Dirty Jobs, next time I go out target practising.. he he...

Doesn't I don't have a T handle that my wire brush or jag and such fit... My .22 and shotgun rods have odd threads ... and the Addaptor they cam with don't fit correctly. It's one of them Wal-mart wooden case cleaning Kits....

I think I will invest in a LONGER ram rod "cleaning rod" as this 25" one seems to short when it has the wire brush on it..so I have to use it with a Exstanded Jar on one end and the wire brush on the other...

Scottie the next time you are at a drug store buy a bottle of 90% Isopropyl Alcohol and put it in a spray bottle. This is all I have used for many years. It contains no water and will evaporates quickly and it will clean your rifle, inside and out. After you have it cleaned, put some oil on it inside and out. The next time you go to shoot it run an alcohol patch down the barrel followed with a dry patch to clean out the oil. load it and have fun.

Oldsnow, would acetone work the same? It sure smells alot like  Rubbing Alcohol....

And I just so happen to have a new can of it in the shed I no longer use......

Or is it to strong and would eat up a plastic spray bottle?

Or be to dry and harsh on the muzzle loader?

  Yes acetone will work I have used it. But alcohol is cheeper.

OldSnow, so Just Spray it on a clean patch and use the Jag and shove it down the barrel?

to help Loosen up all the Build up and such in the barrel?

I thought of it as I used that Brake parts cleaner tonight in a small jar with the breech plug set in it to soak and break up the stuff.. Helped alot....

Scottie_The_Boy, Multi Purpose Windex is different then Normal Windex, it is a clear liquid but can be used on glass and surfaces. The vinegar content is low.

I recently tried Thompson Center T-17 blackpowder bore cleaner and was amazed at how fast and completely it cleaned my breech plug.  This stuff would clean a fully encrusted plug in less than a minute to bright metal with absolutely no scraping, just a tooth brush.  I would use compressed air to blow out the flash hole.  In the past I have used all the methods mentioned above but this stuff is UNBELIEVABLE in comparison.  Try it.

I've tried several different cleaners, like the No.13, Knight Solvent, soap and water, etc.  I like the alcohol best myself, it's cheap and works very well for me.  Wife doesn't complain about the smell too much either.

No smell with the T-17 either and it works much faster than #13 or alcohol.

wanted to get out with the Omega today to test some bullets, yet to damp out ... So I got out the Old 12 gauge noble shotgun and the atv and tried to find some squirrels to make a stew for tonight to eat. No Luck...

So got home and cooked up a Pack of deer steaks instead for a change... And Called Luke's Gun SHop.. He was not in as there was a Huge Gun sale/show in Rochester N.Y. and he headed off to it..

He was Just heading out the door when I called,So I atless asked about them MMP and other Sabots and he says he has them and in stock.. So I hope to take my bullets along and match them up for a better seated bullet to the sabot it's in...

Also I want to Look into some of these Bore cleaning goodies all took their tip to inform me of that they used and like that works....

As I was thinking about that Acetone, downside is such a strong fume I would get a headache before I got the barrel cleaned out...

I Also Noticed that the T-17 has field cleaning patches also and such... I Was Searching threw http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/sw~production.html all these different sites help as some only give so much reading stuff with each Product and such...
I Hate to Make a choice on just a Pic of a Product..
