It is under spring tension and pinned in the front of the sight base.  Flip the sight all the way over and use a drift or punch, or even a flat bladed screwdriver to move the flat sight spring forward to take the tension off and once you have done that, drift out the pin that holds the ladder sight in place and then remove the spring.  Then install your scout mount.  HTH.  Mikey.

Thanks Mikey, that confirmed my thought.  Have not done this before and the rifle is in excellent shape and I did not want to screw around and scratch something up.

What scope are you using? I'm thinking of putting a LER scope on a milsurp and need ideas on which scope.

I have a Burris 2x20 scout scope on one of my other rifles that I will initially use.  I have had excellent results with this scope and the extended configuration.  I know the gun will group, but I just cannot use the military issue sights.  Am also considering adding a drop-in trigger to eliminate the 2-stage.  I bought the gun at a sporting goods store going out of business, stock has minor handling/stain marks but everything else is like new.  Hey, for $165.00 how could you pass it up.
