Stainless Handi, All Stainless??
« on: January 05, 2007, 12:58:30 PM »
If the action is stainless too I'm going to make a version of the Survivor/Varmint Handi using the SS action and barrel as a base.  I don't even mind the regular synthetic forend.  Any rex on a good bipod that will work well w/o purchasing the Choate Var forend.  I don't really see the point unless you can sell me on the flat surfaces touching.  I've got a rounded style on my Savage that's good...(I'd like better if it were taller, next one).  I'll order it tomorow. So these are the final Q's...

1. All SS?
2. Is it easy to remove the Monte Carlo stock? How?
3. Good Bipod rex please
4. 270 or 30-06...I'm leaning 30-06 for power but not by much according to ballistics.  Is the slightly Higher speed of the 270 a plus?
5. How long have you guys been so cool and why didn't I find you sooner?

Fur beware.  The rain don't keep me down!! 8)

1. All SS?

Nope, frame is nickel plated.

2. Is it easy to remove the Monte Carlo stock? How?

that's in the FAQs, remove the recoil pad first! ;D

3. Good Bipod rex please

Harris or Walmart Shooters Ridge

4. 270 or 30-06...I'm leaning 30-06 for power but not by much according to ballistics.  Is the slightly Higher speed of the 270 a plus?

That's debateable, a subject all unto itself, take your pick!!

5. How long have you guys been so cool and why didn't I find you sooner?

We try to keep it a secret!!

Quick, I couldn't find the right FAQ about the stock.  Sorry, help!?  Do SS barrels live longer than your "standard" barrel.  Actually, what is the standard material used in a rifle barrel?  This rilfe's gonna get the weather that's all.  Just want to have a glimmer of an advantage on wear and tear.

Dunno what they're made of, but I know that most of H&R's barrels are Grren Mountain sourced.

The stock bolt takes a 9/16" or 14mm socket on about 12" of extension. I jam the extension thru a plastic bag into the socket to make it stay on the extension when you install it, otherwise the socket may stay stuck to the bolt head!! :-\

Is the bolt in the Monte-stock handle?  Remove the cap=Access?

The stock bolt hole is under the recoil pad.
