It's all over but the shootin'
« on: January 05, 2007, 04:26:47 PM »
After visiting this board for several weeks, i have finally fallen ill with handi disease. I just got back from town with a brand new ultra hunter in .25-06. Man do i love those lam stocks. Topped it off with a Bushnell trophy 4x12x40 ao , held down with millet rings. Gonna give her a good cleaning in the morning, and if this dang rain ever stops, sight it in.( who ever heard of 50 degrees and rain in Jan. in Indiana ?). I bought some Win. 85 grain ballistic silvertips to try out first. Coydogs beware!

From another Hoosier, congratulations on the 25-06 Handi. I agree that the laminated stocks are awesome. You're right on about the weather here .. I just went outside and the rain has stopped. It hit 61 degrees here yesterday and is still 52 degrees now .. at 3:00am ! Maybe it has to do with global warming. From what I have been reading lately, the earth's average temperature of 57 will increase this year ... possibly by 1.5 degrees ... it is posibble that we'll experience El Nino problems again.

Good shooting to you.....

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. Too muddy to get back to my 200 yard spot today. But I did manage to get a 50 yard target set up.(just had to shoot this thing, even though its still cloudy and windy here ) After a couple adjustments, I shot a 3" group 6 inches high and smack dead center at 50 yards. Offhand, no rest. (and i aint as steady as i was 20 years ago )Think I'll leave her there for now. Man this thing shoots sweet.Hardly feel any recoil at all, of course I usually shoot an old savage .30-06 with a steel butt plate, or a mosin nagant 7.62 x54r. I see a .45-70 in my near future.

I know what you mean about the temp. I went to a gun auction today when I walked in at 8 am it was 54 when I walked out it was 71. I live in PA so I know your pain. I always enjoy the colder winter temps of PA, but I don't know if we shall have any this winter. Congrads on the 25-06 hope she shoots well for you.

Welcome hoosierhunter. I have one of the 25 06 ultra's too. It shoots great with remington 100 gr psp. Of course that was after following the advise found here in the faq's and sticky. The guys here really know these guns. Most recent trip to the range turned out sub moa @100yds. Hope the rain stops for ya. Have fun.
