Taurus 5 shot 357 Titanium Question
« on: January 13, 2007, 10:06:08 AM »
I was at my favorite gun shop today and really had my eye on a Taurus.  Its action appeared to be quite smooth.  It a 5 shot snubbie with the shrouded hammer that you can still cock and it had an adjustable rear sight blade.  Also Titanium.  It holds well and the sights are much easier to see than the stainless steel snubbie I looked at at the same time.

I have read of barrels not lining up properly.  Upon looking at the front of this revolver I noticed that rifled barrel appeared to be a little off center from the frame.  What I mean is that the rifled steel insert appeared to be a little off center as I looked at the very front of the barrel.

Is this what others have had a problem with?  Is this more of a problem with titanium revolvers?  The stainless 357 nubbie I was also looking at looked perfectly aligned. I loved the gun otherwise so I may take a chance on it depending on what I hear from others with experience.

Thanks to all for responses.  I am a relatively new reader of the Taurus forum.  I usually hang out in the NEF forum.

My son has the titanium snub nose Taurus and he likes it but says its kind of a handful shooting 357s in it as this is his CCW gun and he usually practises with 38Spec.  I don't have much info on this pistol as I have never seen it because he bought it in Washington state where he lives shortly before he was deployed to Iraq.  If and when he calls I'll ask him about it but I don't know when that will be.  Sorry I offer so little help.

I appreciate it.  I probably would not use full power loads.  I see that Speer markets 38+P and 357 loads that are designed for 2 inch revolver loads.  The 38 is hot for a 38, but the 357 is only about 120 fps faster at 990 fps.    That should aid in the recoil dept while not going as far down as a 38.  The bullets have nice big hollowpoints.

Xhare, I talked to Kyle today on the phone and asked him about the Taurus.  He said the groove sight looks askew with the rest of the gun but that it shoots to point of aim.  He explained it as when looking at the top of the pistol the groove cut into the top strap looks crooked and for all practical purposes it is.  He doesn't see anything wrong with this as it shoots straight.   Good luck with yours.
