One day I was surprised to find two scratches on the screen of my Garmin Legend. I had a moment of regret. I had read about using PDA screen protectors on a gps screen. Some users claimed it was easy to put the protective screen on the unit, and other struggled. The protectors are made of a tough material and if you mess one up you peel it off and replace it. But it was easier not to do it.
Last week the wife and I were doing some shopping and we were in an electronics’ department when I spotted screen protectors for a Game Boy. The package had two protectors, and a cleaning cloth for around nine dollars. I bought it.
At the time we bought the protectors I had a plan. My wife is very good at arts and crafts. She makes patterns and cuts them out. I needed to protect the screen on my Garmin 76C and the 76Cx. The screens are the same size.
She first made a paper pattern of the screen. And then she put the pattern over the material and cut out the protector. We found the protector was slightly over sized. She trimmed the protector to the right size.
I clean the screen on both gps units with Zeiss lens cleaner. Then used the lint cloth provided in the package. I believe the Zeiss lens cleaner was critical in removing fingerprints from the screens.
I then applied the protective material to the screen using the provided cardboard card to remove air bubbles.
My wife gets a lot credit for making the protector fit correctly.
I have the scars and dents in my shins and a few dings in good stocks to prove it is a rough and tumble world out in the woods. I believe that a screen protector is a good option. When I was in a big office supply store they had screen protectors from a number of sources for PDA’s. I did not buy because I was concerned that I might purchase an item to small. But when I was in an electronics department and spotted the protectors for the Game Boy I knew that was the item I wanted. In fact I have enough material left over to cover my cellphone screen.
It was not too difficult to accomplish because my wife made the pattern and did the cutting.
