Does anyone shoot the 405 Winchester in your Encore?
« on: January 09, 2007, 01:08:13 PM »
I have been thinking of getting a barrel in 405 Winchester.  Anyone have any experience with one?

Not yet,

But will soon.  Barrel came yesterday.  Probably be the end of the month before I can shoot it.  But I already had a 405, and therefore, brass, dies, ammo.  I have the new Pro Hunter Recoil Reducing stock.

Any particular information you looking for?

Just let me know how it works out for you.  I too have a ton of brass & bullets so I'll probably get one too.

Bigboar, all the reason to get one. I have heard good things about the 405 in the Encore. I was going to get one, but having a 45-70 already the rounds are so close in ballistic's I did not see the point. Good luck and give us your experiences.

I have one, but only have fired factory ammo in it.   Biggest limitation I have found is finding brass and bullets.  The recoil is pretty stout, more than my 375 H&H.  I sighted it in at 100 yards, and it is accurate enough for my hunting purposes.  I don't think I would target shoot with it though :D

RCampbell,

What loads are you shooting in your 375 H&H???  I don't have an comparision for the Encore, but my 1895 Win 405 kicks with a steel butt kicks a lot less than my Rem 700 375 H&H with scope and recoil pad.  Soon enough I'll know, because I want a 375 Barrel too.

I shoot the 270 grain Hornady RN in the 375 with a mid-level dose of H4895.  Anything higher wasn't as accurate, so I stayed with what worked.  The new Pro Hunter stock that is made for taming recoil has really helped out on the 375 and 338.
