Blue Printing
« on: January 10, 2007, 07:00:17 PM »
I have a 98 mauser action, 30-06.  I have been Thinking about having it blue printed to help the acceracy.

Does This help the acceracy that much.  Now it shoots 1.5 in with reloads.  I really would like to get it under a

Inch.  What is the average cost to have this job done?

Are there any GunSmiths that you would recommend to have this job done?

Thanks in advance for all of yoour answers,

RG2

Blue printing and action requires a lot of machine time. Done right it's fairly expensive. It does help with accuracy but not as much as other factors might. Have you tried bedding the rifle, worked the normal problem spots. Is this a military barrel? Perhaps the barrel is shooting to it's potential.. Guess we'll need more info really.. If building an all out target rifle or sporter blue printing is a good idea on a semi custom sporter????

blue printing can require machine work but their are several things you can do yourself to make the gun shoot better.  You can lap the locking lugs, check head space, bed the action with pillars, install a good trigger, fit the stock, shorten the lock time, work up a load.  Their are several other things but they will require machine work like squaring the receiver and squaring the bolt face, and if possible replace the barrel.  Do what you can yourself and see what happens.
