anyone used a simmons shotgun scope on a handi?
« on: December 28, 2006, 07:22:20 AM »
has anyone used a simmons 4x32mm shotguns scope on a handi or anything else, it seems to be a decent scope and if i figured if it was designed to work on the recoil of a shotgun it will hand my 45/70

Yep. Here it is on my 45-70 Carbine. Notice it will mount ahead of you hammer so it can be mounted super low and doesn't need a hammer spur. Works great.

I use this same scope on my 45-70 and am very happy with it.  There is plenty of eye relief, it is mounted low, and doesn't interfere with the ammer.

I like Simmons scopes for the money and service. I have not used one on a shotgun or 45/70 but those look great!!! I think someone (Quick perhaps?) just recently posted a link to somewhere that had those same scopes(?) on sale for about $20.00 if I remember correctly....what a post christmas present to ourselves!!!!....<><.... :)

I have a Simmons shotgun scope on my Ruger #1. Not because I like the scope so much but I just didn't have anything else to put on it when I put the rifle into action. I'm intending to put a 4X12 Leopold on it after the holidays are over so this is temporary. First time out it shot sub MOA groups with the 1.5X5 scope on it. when I can see the target  better I think it will do better.
   Recoil shouldn't be a problem on a .45-70.

Tim:
Thanks for that link. I have found that these little scopes work great also on .22s where new shooters sometimes are having a problem dealing with eye relief. So just ordered two more. I'm sorry to hear that they are being discontinued. Now when I need them I'll have them on the shelf. Thanks again.

For the money its a nice scope. Got one on my Rossi and it works well. Couldn't say that for a Tasco. :)

I called Simmons about those scopes, they said that scope is discontinued but still covered under thier (great) warranty program. They retailed for $39.95 and are decent but entry level scopes, waterproof and fogproof. The service rep from Simmons was shocked by the price, he said the wholesale to dealers was more than the $19.95 they are being sold for. I think I am going to try to order 2 for my H&R shotguns. Oh yes, the service tech looked up the eye relief for me, it was stated at 5.5" but he said in actuallity it was probably more like 4", plenty for a shotgun or 45/70....<><.... :)

You're welcome Wally! I looked in the 2005 Catalog, it was missing from it, don't have a 2004, but I'd say it's been at least 2 yrs since they discontinued it. I think it got dropped when Simmons announced the Master Series in 2005.

I ordered one myself! ;D! I ordered one of the Prohunter 2-7x32 a couple months ago, it's a nice little scope too, made in the Philippines where some of their other popular scopes came from, like the Whitetail Classic, Whitetail Expedition and ATV.

I have 3 of the 4X32 Pro Diamond Scopes, have them on my .45-70 and .30-30 Handis, as well as my Marlin 1895.  Very bright and clear, eye relief is great for those of us who wear eyeglasses.

Shot a 5 point on the move at just under 200 yds with the .30-30, have shot groups at 200 meters with the Marlin under 2".  Does great on all 3, haven't made any long shots on deer with the .45-70 Handi, but have shot under 1" at 100 with it several times.  I was worried a bit about the 50 yd parallax, but I can't tell the difference.

This is on my 357 barrel.  i never used the setup but i think that it would have worked very well.  it sits very low in a set of super low rings.  i am selling the barrel so this will end up on my huntsman.

I have the 2.5x5x32 Pro Diamond on my Daughter's .357 Handi. It works good. I really like the diamond reticle.
