300 wby light loads?
« on: January 09, 2007, 01:42:56 PM »
Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone out there has ever worked up any light loads for the 300 Weatherby Magnum?  I'm looking to load up something with a 165 or 180 grain around 30-06 level velocities.  Does anyone have any advice in this?

Thanks for your time.

Buy yourself some IMR5010 or WC872, this powder is surplus pulldown powder for 20mm cannon shells. It's cheap and so slow that even with a case full you get 06 velocities. Thus producing very accurate low pressure loads.

The Speer manual calls out recipes for light loads in most calibers and bullet weights. You need to be careful because light loads with certain powders can be dangerous. Use tried and proven loads such as specified in the Speer manuals.
