newbie question - barrell changes
« on: January 13, 2007, 12:32:01 PM »
Hi to all,
I bought a handirifle in .270, this was used, but in as new condition.  I have sighted it in, but did not get to hunt with it this year.  Also had a trigger job done and it shoots much better.
I would like to have other cals. to use, for instance .223, maybe a 45-70.
I know that the factory will sell and fit a new barrell to the action, yet I see a sell/trade area here.
Can an individual buy and install a diff. barrell?  Do you need a gunsmith to do it for you. I don't mean the physical changing of a barrell, but checking headspace, etc.
Really enjoy this site, lots of useful info.
Thanks in advance.

Check the stickys above on barrel fitting.  You can do it but its pretty involved.
Browning Illusion Bow
Omega Thumbhole .50_NEF Huntsman .50
Knight KP1 .243_Custom Rem 700 .308_Browning Safari Bar .300 WSM, Ruger No.1 30-06

Thanks for the quick answer. Good info in the FAQ's.
Got to think about that.
Maybe spending the money toward a complete gun is a better solution for me.
