ProHunter Katahdin Barrel
« on: January 14, 2007, 07:21:19 AM »
Hi all, first post here.  Nice forum, it's kept me up late the last few nights reading so I went ahead and joined.  I recently bought a Pro Hunter in 7mm-08 and love it.  Now I have the bug for some more barrels.  I was thinking about a Katahdin 20" prohunter in 45-70 for thick cover hunting.  Has anyone tried it?  I love the fact that it already comes with a good Williams peep/fire sight set so I wanna leave it alone.  Are they as accurate as the 24" 45-70 barrels?

Thanks

I would think they were, the 15 inch barrels are accurate.  Also Welcome to Graybeard.  ;D

I have one but have only put 5 shots through it to make sure it fired so I do not know about the accuracy.  I do like the sights and it is a nice length.  Now that hunting season is over I have more time but the closest range to me is closed for re-construction so I am not getting much shooting done.

I have actually been trying to determine whether or not to sell the 45-70 barrel.  It or the 25-06 is going to have to go along with my Encore ML to raise money to switch to a Savage ML.  I did not used to have these problems but 1 kid in college and another one going next year has really cut into my firearm addiction.
