Well, I finally got a chance to stretch the legs on my new 22-250 fluted Varmiter this last weekend. I worked until noon and then decided to do a little hunting.
We have recently had a severe ice and snow storm here and I thought I might get lucky and see a yote or two on the move in all the snow. I drove out to one of my best hunting spots, which is a dry playa lake bottom. As soon as I got around the corner on the lease road, with the lake bottom in sight, I parked my truck and started glassing. On the first pass with the glasses, I picked up the movement of a large coyote at roughly 450-500 yards. The yote spotted my truck right off, so I grabbed the 22-250, open the door, braced and put the crosshairs on the very top of his head. I woofed really loud and he stopped and assumed the pose. BANG...one dead dog! Upon inspection of the dog, hit was 1'' left of center and middle of the neck.
Load used was 50 gr V-Max over 36.0 grains Hodgdon 4895. CCI LR Primers in new Win. brass.( use this load at caution as its close to the top limit).
I've only run 25 shots or so through the gun but I'd say she'e a keeper! Man, I love this gun!
