« on: January 16, 2007, 05:16:07 AM »
This is a 30 caliber bullet what cartridge would be a good choice for this bullet?

Boolit weight approximately 154gn. without check or lube.

Thanks Warf

Gas checked would bring it up to what...163-165 grains correct?..Depending on the composition of the mix in the alloy..should work with many 30 calibers..and for cast bullets fans would be a dandy in the Handi 30-30 and the 30-06 ;) The WFN would give good knock down at close ranges and cut a pretty nice hole thru..A softer mix or heat treated nose section would allow some expansion...a gas check will keep the leading down...A super hard mix would penetrate very well like for a big hog.

That big flat nose would make it perfect for the .30-30,It would work well in a 7.62x39 also if deoending on bore size and dia of the bullet.

Reduced loads .308 .30-06

Prime candidate .30-30 (due to the long neck)

Neck on 7.62x39 might be too short, unless you don't mind hanging the gas check down below the neck - into the case.

Looks like a Lee six-banger GB from cast boolits.  Is it?

Yes it is.

The use for this bullet will be everything paper ~ critters, just asking what would be a good all around cartridge for this bullet.

Thanks for the input so far keep them coming.

I too think that it would lend it self well to the 30/30 even more so in a handi were you could thak advantage fo the long throats in these rifles , the 30/40 krag would be another good one .
