SCOPE MOUNT FOR HEAVY KICKER
« on: January 17, 2007, 01:55:00 PM »
Is a 6 screw base nessary for a 375 JDJ 23'' bbl. ?? Some say that the regular 4 screw with weaver mount won't hold up!!

What I don't understand is ,there shooting alot heavier stuff in the encore ( is it drilled for only 4 screws) ?? Or are they getting away with it because the whole rig is heavier??

contnder hunter,

once again something I have been thinking about.  All of my rifles use a 4 screw base and I have never had an issue but then again like you mentioned I have never had a 5 1/2 pound rifle before.  One other issue to clear up before I pop for that 375jdj..

I would say 6 screws is not needed. I have used the Warne all steel mounts on my 416 Rigby Encore barrel without a problem. I have used them on my 300 Win Mag, 45-70 and 460 Mag. I never had one problem.

I shot a e-mail to JD of ssk on the subject and he said they have heard of quite a few failures with the 4 screw weaver mount , but maybe he was refering more to pistol length barrels  , his regular T'SOB 6 screw base and three rings INSTALLED  is 88 .00 bucks , sounds resonable to me , just not sure if nessary.Redhawk how much is the warne mount and ring set-up ?

contender hunter, does the $88.00 cover shipping the barrel to him and back?

Here are the prices for Warne rings and mounds, you might be able to find them cheaper if you shop around.

Redhawk , It doesn't cover shipping in either direction , but he is drilling the extra two holes for a six screw set-up and including the base and three rings , I agree by the time you add 10.00 or 12.00 dollars for sending and recieving it sure adds up.

Thanks for the info on the Warne rings and mounts. Seems like the t'sob is resonable if it wasn't for the extra 24.00 shipping cost!!!

I see on Bullberrys site they list a steel weaver style scope base for the 6 screw set-up , does anyone no how much Fred charges for the mount and drilling and tapping the two additional holes ?? Or is there a email address for Bullberry?
