Okay,
I think I can do it. I want to make my 357 mag barrel a MAX. I can rent a reamer from a reamer rental .com. Do I need to get the floating reamer or solid chamber reamer. Do I need a pilot bushing? I can rent for three days or 2 weeks. Do I need to get a T-handle and some cutting oil? I assume I twist the reamer in until it is snug with the barrel. It is said that it is an easy job but I have alot of anxiety and would like to give it a try with a little help from my friends.

I recently got Lee Anniversary Reloader for a 357 B@D. Now I want to reload for the 357 Max. I know alot of ya have and love the MAX.

I haven't done a chamber, just a couple throatings, but I would highly recommend renting from Fred at 4D, he's a GBO sponsor and his reamers are excellent, fast service too. I'll leave the chamber reaming advice to those that have done it, there's plenty of em here!!!

Yes you can! Its very easy and it will almost take you longer to unpack the reamer than doing the job. Lotsa cutting oil and a T handle is all you need, The reamer will bottom out on the rin so it won't cut to far. The reamer alot of us used here was solid no pilot bushing, This makes for a grat shooting rifle and very easy to reload for uses the same dies as a .357 mag. Go for man.

Fred from 4D is at the shot show in Florida till the 19th. I will get the dies ordered in the meantime. I saw in another thread that the IMR 4227 powder is okay to use and I just happen to have some. I will probably have to get some more primers though. I have the Winchester Large pistol for the 357/44 B&D and also some CCI 400 small rifle primers for my Huntsman ML. I guess I'll have to drive to OKlahoma City to Bass Pro. What a shame. (ha, ha)

Drive on to the north side of OKC to sportsman's warehouse (Corner of N Penn and Memorial)...a lot more choices of everything shooting related....and not all that crap in the middle like BPS, IMHO.

I did the ream ing in a bout 15 minutes very easy job.
Last june watched aman do one under acedar tree,
used a chuck off of a drill to turn resmer.

Sprortsman's wearhouse has alot of reloading supplies compaired to the gun shops around OKC these days, alot more powder selection. Give it a try if you are up in the city

Pharmboy, I don't know if this will help you out or not but a week or 2 ago I swapped a 26" .280 Remington Handi barrel on this site for a like new 2004 Handi .357 Max barrel. It was originally a .357 Mag and was transformed into a .357 Max at the last P-Dog shoot. I am only going to send this barrel in to be rechambered to my long sought after .35 Remington so if you want to swap barrels it's fine with me, Whichever barrel I send in will be rechambered anyway and this way you will end up with a .357 Max for the shipping of about $12.40. Just an offer to help you out if you are interested and if your barrel is in comparable condition and about as new....<><....

It would be cheaper for me to trade barrels with ya. If that is not too big of a deal for you, I would do that. I bought this barrel from Darat in August. He said it was a real good shooter. It is in real good shape. Have you shot your Max yet? Probably not since you just got it to rechamber for a 35 Rem. Let me know how you would like this swap to go forward.

Hi buddy, do you know where Darat got it or how long he had it? I am wondering what the year of production was, the first 2 numbers of the serial number of the gun it came off. Which style iron sights does it have on it? I doubt if I can make the 07 PD shoot Pharmboy, it's just to far to go in a truck that get's about 12 mpg and the cost of gas. I am having a hard time justifying a trip to my camo in Maine with gas and the few tolls running about $85.00 each way. I had expected to be there now but here I sit. I think something can be worked out here to help you and Shaner both out even if it does not involve my barrel....<><....

id liketo go ahead na chamber mine barrel i got from eskimo it shoots great now but id like to try a max , never had the chance pick up a hundred brass and give it a try there use to be a few reamers floatin around people were borrowin>?

I'm almost past the point of no return. I ordered the brass, shellholder and the dies for the Mad Max. There is a good thread from Feb 04 about this round. I ordered Hornaday 110 gr xtp bullets before I read this other post and it seems as if the Max likes the heavier bullets. Check out those Hornaday 180 gr SSP, a pointed bullet in a handgun cartridge. I had to work at the hospital all weekend so next week I will go out and shoot the 357/44 B&D I loaded up for the TC Contender and load some Max cartridges for the NEF until I get the Mighty Max reamed.

I looked at the map and the Sportman's Wharehouse is actually closer than Bass Pro. I will go there to get powder and primers. It costs to much to have that stuff shipped.

There was one around here that was available for shipping and a few bucks to help offset the cost of the reamer. The Big Brown Truck pulled up and dropped off the brass and dies for the Max. I loaded one up and am just waiting for the barrel that MSP swapped with me (thanks Andy). Can't wait to shoot it but it looks like the weather in OKlahoma might not cooperate. Wait, those hogs should be easier to track in the snow. I'm pumped. By the way, did you see the way I bid that 38-55 on E-bay up. I am not going to by on e-bay anymore but I am going to increase the value on what we already have. I guess sending the receiver to NEF and have the barrel professionally fitted ain't soooo bad. Just have to have a few receivers.

Hey Shaner, I am so happy you located a reamer!!! I did do th swap with Pharmboy since I did not need this barrel to be a Max since it is going to become a .35 Remington anyway. Looks like were all good to go now....

And Pharmboy, that barrel should be there by tomorrow and the snow sounds great to track those pigs in. A great first use of the .357 Max. Keep us informed on the proceedings and let me know when the barrel gets there and how it fits, I am thinking yours will get there about a day before I get this one at this end and if your new one fits your reciever the one you are sening me should fit at this end, if not fitting is pretty simple, let me know....<><....

Hey guys,
Swapped .357Max barrels with MSP and every thing is a go. I loaded up some 357 Max Rem brass with IMR 4227 with 26grs. and a Hornaday 110 gr. XTP bullet and will see wha it will do. I will go after the little piggies with it and let the "Big Ones" have it with the 45/70 when it's their time. I will also have a TC Contender in 357/44 B&D for back up with 125 gr XTP's with the same load. I have not shot either so it should be intersting!!

The weather here is raining and in the thirties and dropping so I hope it is not a repeat of last week.

P.S. Shaner, thanks for lookin into the reameR. I got this deal with MSP RET (Andy) and we made the swap. Keep with the Mad Max because it looks to be a real COOL CARTRIDGE!!

your goin to run a 110 gr in the max?? wow that should cook out the end of it, i never had a lot of lot with 110 gr bullets in handguns, i always ended up back with 125 gr the XTP will work for ya , at those speeds whew look out piggie the grim reaper is on ya

The reamer that was used was the excate size for the chamber. The best loads I have used in mine has been 26grs of AA1680 with 180 gr JHP remingtons or hornady hp/xtp's. Try that load and let us know what it does.

Yep that's the one Paul. Just couldn't find the time to work on it and got the .280 bug REALLY bad. I think I can fit the .280 into my hunting plans better than I could the Max anyway. Apprecaite all you and Jimmy did to get me fixed up with it though and looking forward to seeing you guys again in a few months.
Pharmboy, that was my barrel originally and I never took the time or effort to work up a load for it so I'm gonna be watching with interest to see how it does for ya. Glad you got it and that Andy got a non-reamed one for his endeavor as well. I like it, three members all happy and pleased with trades, nice place to be a part of.

This whole swap thing was really great guys and the way I think this site should work, members here getting things, swapping them to brothers here and all ending up with something they want. The barrels are nice but I find the hunt and the swaps just as exciting. Lik2hunt had his .357 Max and decided he could use a .280 Remington more, which he now has since I had an extra .280 Rem and needed a .357 Mag or Max to be rechambered into my long desired .35 Remington. I swapped with Lik2hunt, and then Pharmboy had a .357 Mag and wanted a .357 Max, it made no difference to me which I had since if I sent in a .357 Mag or a .357 Max it was going to be rechambered to a .35 Remington anyway. Pharmboy and I each had .357 barrels which look like new and appeared to come from the same production run in 2004, that special run of 100 barrels. Pharmboy and I swapped and each of our "new" barrels fit up snug and perfectly with our recievers. Pharmboy even sent me some cash to cover my end of the shipping and the old size Survivor forearm screw I have needed!!!..Thanks!!

So I ask you,.........Is everybody HAPPY?!!!!!

I have a 357 Max, Lee reloader with dies and brass and powder and just ordered a 3-10x57mm scope to see in the dark. My buddy called and said that we are wanted to help control a "HOG" problem.
