« on: October 24, 2006, 02:29:42 PM »
I purchased one of these today( my first 1911)  Now i am serching for info. It came as new in the box with an extra clip. How much would be a decent price for one of these, seems to be in perfect shape and shot very little. Since I bought it so fast I have read some bad things about this Company, Are they true? Any help will be greatly Appreceated. Thanks Steve ???

Steve - these are basic mil-spec pistols.  I have seen a few on the range and they keep tickin' along without any problems.  I would stock up on a bunch of decent ball ammo and take her out to the 'ball game' (lololol).  Sorry 'bout that one, but you need to see how she shoots before you get concerned about someone else's problems.  HTH. I wanted an Auto Ordinance about ten years ago as a platform to add goodies to however, I was unable to find one and my local dealer would not order one because he didn't like them.  The Auto Ordinance's I did see were good shooters but not as well finished as other brands.  Stuff like tooling marks, gritty trigger and slide (when new)  But that was years ago.  I think after you shoot it a bit, that it will make a fine pin gun or self defense weapon.  And after having a look at their website I would think these would be much better platforms to work with than say a Rock Island Armory 1991-A1.  Is your Gun new?  What model is it?  Have a look at this:

Ric Mic  Thats the one that I bought . I shot it today with some (cheap) FMJ  I could keep most of them in a pieplate at 25 yds, so I think will will do fine if I feed it Right. This is my First 1911 and yes I was excited shooting it , Thanks for the Replies  Steve

I think you got yourself a great gun.  I recently bought a Springfield Armory 1911 A1 GI 45, about the same thing you have.  Fun Fun Fun.

Kahr now owns Auto Ordnance. Quality has VASTLY improved since the aquisition. HOWEVER...Auto Ordnance frames and slides are investment CAST. Springfield Armory frames and slides are all FORGED. FWIW, Springfield Armory 1911s have ALWAYS come from 'overseas', i.e. from Brazil. EARLY Springfields had their frames machined from raw Braziian forgings manufactured by IMBEL, Brazils LEADING weapons manufacturer, also licensed by Frabrique Nationale to produce Browning Hi-Powers and FALs.

My new auto-ordnance army 1911 ww2 copy 45acp is the best out of the box 1911a1 that i ever had.  I paid $389 for it.  I was looking for a no frills shooter.  I was looking for a RIA,  CD or Rock Iland Armory 1911a1 but none to be found so i purchased the new auto-ordnance army ww2 copy 1911a1.  It hasn't had a hickup yet.  I shoot only wolf 45acp ammo too.  I also put in the 18# recoil spring and the full length guide rod from SPG.  The new Auto-ordnance Army WW2 copy 1911a1 is hard to beat at any price, i found it to be reliable and dependable right out of the box.  I have to get another one before the price goes much higher my dealer is up to $450 right now.   My hats off to the people at auto ordnance the 1911a1 is made in the usa and its a high quality piece for a cheap price.  Its a awesome shooter and thats all i wanted.

I had a new colt 1911a1 back in the 80's it was a goverment model in nickle that both sights were loose right away on it.  I wonder if the ammo i was reloading had something to do with it(hotter)? I was thinking the orginal recoil springs were too weak for the hotter ammo.

I changed the recoil spring in the auto-ordnance and in all my 1911a1's they all have the 18# spring in them with the full length guide rods too.

Is that recoil spring hard to change? Is there anything that can be done to the trigger on the AO 1911, other than that mines works excellent. Steve

Hello,
Have an AO 1911 in 9mm and the shorter version in 40 S&W.
Is there a good source for replacement barrels for these?
I'd like to get another 40 S&W barrel as the one I have appears to ahve feeding problems.
May have been exposed to too stout a load at some time.
Thanks.

The recoil spring is not hard to change at all. I would also have a trigger job done on it as most of the ones I've felt have been pretty heavy. I would probably add an extended thumb safety and a good set of sights if yours has the GI sights. Get you a couple of Wilson 8 rd. mags and your ready to go.

Bought a friends Auto-Ordance probably 12-13 years ago. Had a trigger job done, installed a taller front sight, then filed it down to put me right on at 25 yds. Extremely reliable. It would be the gun I grab, if I were to ever need one in a tight situation. It'll never be a target gun, but that's not what I'm looking for. I've got less than $300 into it, and shot the snot out of it.-gypsyman

I don't think my new Auto-Ordnance Army WW2 copy 1911a1 in 45acp can be beat or even matched for just $389 at my local dealer he since has gone up to $449.  I really want to get another one too.

I installed the full length guide rod kit w/ 18# recoil spring from sportsmans guide for around $10 on sale.  They have them for both barrel lengths too (commander/goverment)  I just used moly to lube the spring/guide rod.  The 1911a1 becomes very controllable with less recoil with the spring/guide rod kit.  It cycles faster and smoother too.
