MARLIN loose barrel

I have a marlin semi auto 22 , maybe a 989 , looks like a little m1 30 cal carbine , when i stripped it for cleaning , i discovered the barrel to be loose , a little wiggle sideways , i removed a pin at the barrel reciever joint ,no difference . can anyone help , what would i need to do to tighten barrel , thanks folks

Below is the parts diagram or blowup for a Marlin M99M1. The pin you likely removed is the barrel retainer pin(#5). This holds the barrel in place in the receiver. If the pin is out the barrel should be removeable. I've not taken one of these down but a bit of acra glass around the barrel shank should tighten it up a bit. It will likely bond to the receiver also but a little wax on the receiver should keep things from becoming problematic. If the barrel is threaded(doubtful) a shim can be added to the shank of the barrel to allow it to come up tight against the receiver, with the sights vertical and the pin hole properly alligned.. The same technique would also work if the barrel is just a pressed in unit but part of the rigdity of the barrel/receiver assembly comes from the tightness of the joint in question.

thanks for the link gun nut , so do you think the ridgidity of the barrel / receiver joint is the pin only ?
are you thinking i might epoxy the joint?

I would tighten the barrel/receiver joint by filling the loosness with epoxy. A coat of wax on the receiver will allow the barrel to avoid bonding and allow it's removal.  The pin can provide some tightness by shimming between the barrel and the receiver. The pin will then be under tension as it's driven (it should be a tapered pin) and this will draw the barrel to the rear, creating a tighter joint.. The rigidity of this joint is an important part of good accuracy..
