NEW GUNS
« on: January 21, 2007, 04:54:47 AM »
HEY GUYS,I USED TO READ ALOT ON THE SHOTGUN SITE A COUPLE YEARS AGO ,BUT SINCE THEY OPENED RIFLE HUNTING AROUND HERE,I'VE BEEN PLAYING WITH THE HANDI'S QUIT A BIT.IN ANY CASE, I PICKED UP A COUPLE GUNS AND HAD A QUESTION.THEY APPEAR TO BE A NICE SET OF RMEF LAMINATE STOCKS IN 12GA. AND 280 REM. I THOUGHT THEY WERE UNFIRED WHEN I BOUGHT THEM,BUT WHEN I TOOK THE 280 APART TO CLEAN IT I NOTICED SOME ONE HAD WORKED ON THE LUG UNDER THE BARREL.IT CLOSES GOOD AND SMOOTH WITH NO PROBLEM. MY QUESTION IS WILL THIS TAKE AWAY FROM THE VALUE OF THE WHOLE GUN OR IF I DECIDE TO SELL THE BARREL AND GET THE 45-70 PUT ON, WILL THE BARREL BE WORTH LESS?THERE ARE COUPLE SPOTS OF SURFACE RUST TO DEAL WITH BUT NOTHING MAJOR THAT WONT CLEAN UP.IVE INCLUDED A PICTURE SO YOU CAN SEE THE GUNS I,M TALKING ABOUT.

Resale value isn't usually something considered with these guns. As long as if works it shouldn't matter.Nice looking guns. I'd love to talk to you 1st if you decide to get rid of the 12ga or it's stocks.
PROUD REDNECK CONSERVATIVE

I'd much rather be remembered for being a great shot than having the most expensive gun

No problem at all on the lug being worked on, It could have been done at the factory when they fitted the barrel to the action and most likely was, barrel fitting is done after blueing so any work marks by the gunsmiths are evident. Not to worry. You could check to see if the last 3 numbers of the serial numbers are etched on the left side of the reciever lug, the company usually (but not always) does that upon barrel fitting. Matching numbers is good, no numbers on the lug is OK, different numbers but the gun fits great is fne also, perhaps just not factory fitted. If you want to get rid of the .280 barrel and get a 45/70 instead you might try posting here in the calssifieds for a barrel trade/swap. A 45/70 is a real preferred barrel but those .280's are among the best shooting and hunting calibers/barrels offered by H&R/NRF. That is a nice looking pair you have, it would be a shame to break them up, but I am sure they would look just as nice with a 45/70 barrel on tihe rifle instead of the .280, congratulations....<><... :)

actually there's a chance that might happen.these things are just to pretty to beat around in the woods.(and I just got back from gander mtn. and they have a synthetic 30-06 that I REALLY like.)
