How's the Water situation in your area.
« on: May 19, 2003, 03:58:31 AM »
Everything here is full, including my back yard, the ditch by the road, bird bath, and anything else that will hold water.  I even got a letter from the city the other day to let me know my grass had grown too hight at the rent house (They are kidding, Right?)  I hear its worse the farther south you go.  Some of the rivers like the lower Tennessee, Tombigbee, Warrior, Alabama, and others are huge going.  I can tell y'all this, the lakes here are full, and the TVA and Corps aren't showing you any mercy.  They're running all the generators wide open 24/7 trying to lower them, and in some cases, the gates are open.

Skipper,

Same here, everything is full and after a few years where everything almost dried up I hope they remember not to lower the water levels to much.  Lots of businesses went belly up praying for rain that didn't come.  Got a nice surprise last night.  Caught a 5 lb. bass that had a 1/2 oz. Rattle-Trap(Rainbow Trout) still in it mouth.  Line parted right at the knot.  Only had to replace one of the treble hooks to make it almost new again.  Nice to get presents.  This happen to you very often?  This is the fourth lure I've gotten this way.  Also got a Zebco 33 reel and rod when catfishing one time.  I snagged the reel and the catfish was still on the line.  Don't think it had been in the water very long as I still have that rod and reel.  Lawdog

I'd have chucked the Zebco back where it came from.  Rattle trap is a different story though.    :)

When they draw the lakes down here we find a lot of baits on the banks.  I've often thought that taking a 4 wheeler and running along the banks would be a good way to stock up.

I have over time found some rods and reels.  Most weren't much by the time I found them.

As far as finding something in a bass worth keeping, that's real rare.  Mostly I find jigs or worm hooks in them, and they aren't worth anything by then.

Skipper,

The kids grew up using that old Zebco and now the grandkids are using it.  I wish I had a quarter for every Bluegill that has been caught on that outfit since I got it.  $$$$  Seeing that only the one hook on that rattle-Trap was starting to rust, you have any idea how long it had been in that bass's mouth?  I figure not more than a couple of days myself.  Lawdog

Couldn't have been long.  I'd agree 2 or 3 days max.  I caught one once with a worm hook shank hanging out of its poop shute.  I couldn't do much for him, so I just released him.

Found an All Star worm rod with a Browning-Lews speed spool once. Also found a 33  outfit in great shape. I gave it to a friends stepson. The All Star is still with me.

I'd like to find a Lews BB1NGH for parts.  Those old Lews were good reels.  Trouble is, there's no more parts for them, and people won't accept that.  I've got a guy who keeps bringing me his back to fix.  I've told him 20 times, there are no parts, and I don't have a magic wand.
