I just spent some time doing the cost work up on some loads. Yes there are a number of variables. I went with light bullet weight varmit loads including 65gr bullets for the 243 loads. Average grain  between starting and max loads were used. Price includes new bought brass new bullets and gunpowder average $20.00 per pound.

204 ruger 8.00 per 20 vs 16.29 store new
222 rem   7.50 per 20 vs 14.50 store new
223wssm  13.76 per 20 vs 18.79 store new
22-250     9.75 per 20  vs 13 to 20 store new
243          10.78  vs..... I did not get this price due to not finding this load commercially available.

Please consider this for what it is, There can be a lot to throw the price off depending onloads you want. But in my mind reloading makes this a lot more affordable and helps decide what caliber I may get next.

Your cost analysis is based on 'new brass'. The point of handloading is to get the best ammo for your gun and reuse what you can. The brass is reusable so the cost must be spread out of its life as opposed to  new purchased everytime. I can get somewhere between 5-20 loads per case depending on what i am loading. Makes your costs look much better(esspcially if you are justifying handloading to someone).

Good point, and one I always forget to factor in. Good catch. Definetly lowers the cost after intial purchase.
