bushnell trophy and banner parallax setting?
« on: January 23, 2007, 01:48:00 PM »
It seems like these (the non-AO ones) are set at 75 or 100 yards and not 150.  Does anyone know off the top of his head?

Shotgun scopes are usually 75yds, big game scopes 100yds or 150yds, Luepolds are 150yds, I think! The best way to find out is check it at the range.

Yah, but a friend wants to buy one for a 17 HMR.  We were trying to decide if either of these were at 75-100 yards.  There is one Banner that is listed specifically as a shotgun scope.  A couple say "big game".  I will go another route I guess.  Unless someone has used a 3-9 Banner or Trophy on 17 HMR barrel personally.

I think a 17hmr, as accurate as they are, deserves an adjustable objective. Inducing parallax into the accuracy equation doesn't help to make for small groups and precise shooting, whether it's head shots on tree rats or paper.

You guys do know, that you can unscrew the ring on the objective lens and adjust the parallax to whatever you want on most any scope, right?   I've been doing it to Bushnell Sportsman scopes for a couple years now.

These new ClearRidge scopes look to be a great fit for a little HMR.

I am curious to hear more about them in the future.

I had a Banner 3x9 on my .17 HMR and it worked fine @ 100 yrds however that bullet is so small that I could not see where I was hitting without constantly going to the spotting scope so put a 6x24 on it. I've found the Banner and Trophy 3x9 scopes adjust and maintain point of aim better @ 100 yrds if left at 6x or less. Have no idea what parallax setting is on them but it's at least 100 yrds if not 150.

That's a good point about moving the objective lens.  That would be beyond this lady's capabilities, I don't know her well enough to mess with it.  I thought about trying that myself, but have never done it.  It seems straight forward.

Thanks for tip too, Dillohide.

I pointed a friend toward the Mueller APV for his Savage 17 after all the good things I had read about them at Rimfirecentral.com.  He has been more than pleased with it.  They can be had for $115 (shipping included) for black or $125 for silver.
