POI shift with barrel change

This has probably been addressed before but I was not able to search so please forgive if a repeat.  Sighted in my .50 Prohunter ML at beginning of season, switched to 7-08 barrel for regular rifle season and then put ML barrel back on frame.  I hunted this morning and luckily I guess did not have any opportunity to shoot at a deer as when I check the zero at lunch (I still am not comfortable with switching barrels around as this is my first encore) the shots are 6 inches high at 100.  I was very careful to mark where the forearm screws were previously tightened to with a mark and thought I had reattached it with the same pressure.  Anyway, what are the precautions to take when swapping barrels to make sure there is minimal POI shift?  I have not free-floated my ML barrel yet.  I did free-float the 7-08 with a couple of washers.  It is hard for a long-time bolt action shooter to get used to changing a barrel around and not worry about the POI :-).  Thanks for any suggestions.

In my limited experience (7-08, 45-70 and 209X50) if I tighten the forearm screws to the same point each time my POI doesn't change. My forarm/barrel is floated by sanding out the forearm to eliminate contact. However, the first shot out of a muzzle loader is always interesting. After the first shot it's on target.

There was an article in either Field 'n Stream or Outdoor Life in the last few months, that kind of complained about the "touchy" chainging impact points because of the forarm's touching the barrels. I don't think they came right out and said "float 'em", but that was the drift of one of the things they didn't like. (The other being the hefty trigger).

I have not had that problem, but I also got out and shoot my gun to always make sure it is on before I hunt.

Had the same thiing happen to me today. Got it sighted in & changed barrels. After I changed barrels back my carbine was shooting high & to the left of where I had it sighted in. I'm planning on floating my barrel after this weekends hunt.

I don't have Encores, but I do have Contenders.  I routinely change barrels, and even move barrels around between frames (even between G2 and original Contender).  I have never had to re-zero yet.  None of my carbines are heavy recoilers, and that may be the difference.  I wouldn't think there would be much difference between Encores and Contenders, but apparently there is.

In my opinion the difference between the Contenders and the Encores are in the way the foreams attach.  The Contenders have the dovetail lugs and if you sand the barrel channel a little the barrel will not contact the forearm except at the dovetail lugs even without washers.  The Encore screws straight to the barrel and you can never float the barrel without washers.

From my experience Contenders never change POI when changing barrels, even between frames.  My Encore ML never changes impact and is very accurate and it has standoffs from the barrel like all the ML barrels do.  Although my 25-06 barrel has never made a big change, it seems I have seen small changes with the barrel screwing straight to the barrel.

Just my opinion of course.

Was the ML barrel fouled?  I've found that Mine shoots High, with the first shot out of a clean Barrel.   Also make sure the ears on the forend are not touching the frame . Have found this to cause funky things.

The forearm is contacting the frame and now that the season is over I can take it off and sand and tinker with it.  I did not think about that aspect and appreciate the comments.  It is possible also that some oil remained in the barrel that I did not get with a dry patch.  Ended up with 3 big does falling to this ML this season,  2 of them at about 125 yards.  It does shoot sweet!  All the advice is appreciated.

Had the same problem when i got my first rifle barrel and it's forearm.   Luckily, i caught it when i was installing it on the gun.
