information on a colt US Army model 1909
« on: January 25, 2007, 04:45:12 PM »
I recently picked up a Colt US Army model 1909. The left side of the barrel is marked .45 D.A. . The top of the barrel is marked Colts PT FA MFG CO. HARTFORD CT. USA PATD AUG. 5 1884, JUNE 5 1900, JULY 1905
underside of the barrel is marked UNITED STATES PROPERTY, the right side of the frame back by the hammer is marked RAC. There is a lanyard ring on the butt and the serial number is 452XX. The grips (stocks) ar faux stag horn.
It shows moderate wear with some rust and light pitting.
Any idea as to the manufacturing date and value.

Thanks,
Terry

Manufactured around 1909 to 1911.  This was an interim issue side arm while the US military was deciding what they wanted in a 45 semi auto.  It is chambered for the 45 Revolver, not the same as a 45 Colt althrough it was intended to use the 45 Colt as a secondary cartridge in the event the 45 Revovler was not available.

In decent condition these seem to run from about $500 and upwards.
