Anybody know a GOOD 'smith who can drill and tap a Mauser for a receiver sight? I'm thinking about a commercial Mauser peep sight on the bridge or a conventional Williams or Redfield target peep. I had a so-called "gunsmith" drill and tap the side of an SKS once so I could solidly mount a scope base. He botched the job, one hole went in crooked and he wallowed it out trying to fix it. Sad. Ruined the rifle. I need someone who can put the sight on square and right.
I guess I could send the barrelled receiver anywhere in the country.
Anybody else have any ideas? Unconventional, maybe? Modifications of other rifles sights, like M1 carbine or Enfield #4? Those #4 peeps are GREAT. I'm not wanting a Mojo sight, as I MAY want to put a scope up there on the original sight base in future. Remember, Col. Jeff Cooper said a scope is not necessary to a scout rifle, but good peeps (esp. ghost rings) are.
