weatherstripping
« on: January 25, 2007, 06:12:59 AM »
I have been searching for about 15 minutes for a post where someone suggested using weatherstripping to float the forestock of a handi as opposed to the o-ring or other methods.  I can't find it, so I'll just ask if anyone knows anything about it.  Thanks a hundred.

I don't remember the post, but I use a similar system for my forearm. I use a small piece at the screw hole and a larger one at the forearm tip.
I've been using a Sorbothane/Neoprene sandwich material that kills all vibration:

Thanks guys, that helps.  I suppose what I'll do is start simple (with just the o-ring) and see how it performs and then try more elaborate things if that doesn't work.  I've also heard that removing the forend and then trying some shots will help narrow the problem down as well.

Mine shoot great right out of the box.  You might consider shooting them without anything first.

I've shot it already.  I got about 2.5" groups at 100 yards.  That's not too bad, but it seems like there is some room for improvement.  It's a .223 ultra varmint by the way.  It was on lead sled with decent glass on top.

If you haven't shot a lot of rounds thru it and haven't polished the bore, it may very well take some more shooting for the barrel to break in, my 223 UV started shooting good somewhere around 80 rounds, but that was after polishing the bore, it might take upwards of 200 rounds for a barrel to shoot good just by shooting. So I wouldn't do anything permanent until the bore is well broke in, as you may be undoing what changes you make.

Thanks for the advice, Tim.  I've shot about 65 rounds through it and a friend of mine will be polishing it this weekend.  I'll wait 'till then to do any tinkering.
