Win 94 cross bolt safety replacement
« on: January 22, 2007, 10:23:44 PM »
All of 94 owners know that the cross bolt safety is a nuissance as it is easy to engage it wihtout noticing it leading to increased safety for the game chased if not the owner !

Some elected to glue it, block it or remove it.

Personaly, I did not like to reove it as indeed I happen to use it when I unload the gun. In this case it is useful.

So I tackled the problem and came with a solution, I designed a different safety that can't be engaged by just holding the gun against you chest.

A few people around here showed interest in it but there are not many hunters in europe using a 94 so market is limited.

On the other hand, I was wondering if in North America, there would be a market for this type of safety that I can make easy to install by the owner. I know of companies selling just plugs to replace it but you loose the safety functionality.

Eventualy I would have to protect it by applying for a patent, of course.
marketing it would not be an issue in this age of Internet, ebay, paypal etc...
besides I am

This came to my mind when I saw someone in the US selling via ebay ghost rings he designed for Marlin 336 (I alse designed one for my 94 keeping the front bead and a low profile mount for a Docter red dot)

I would be glad to have your opinion.

I detedt the safeties on the 94's as do most others. A better safety would indeed be preferable to the easily engaged device currently employed. There would be some liability incurred but a legal advisor could give a better handle on that.. You might also contact the folks at Brownells and Midway for help marketing your product,. These companies are the leading suppliers to the gunsmithing trade.

Thanks.
I wanted to have an idea if there would be people interested.
The issue I have is about intellectual property protection.
I do not have a real productoin facility, just a small lathe and handtools and therefore would have to hand over the design and of course it could be easily copied.
If I submit my idea to a vendor, he could also just say thank you and copy it no ?

Based on people interest then it may be feasible to apply for patent and/or have a mechanical shop produce a quantity I could suplly vendor like Brownelles or Midway.

Off course, I don't plan to make a fortune out of it !  :D even if there is one or two millions Win 94 with a cross bolt safety !

I am no patent attorney or any kind of attorney!! But I believe there would be a market for a less easily activated safety to replace the winchester supplied one.. Of course, what do I know about any of this??NOthing!!  In any case, good luck!
