RWS Scope mount ?
« on: February 08, 2007, 02:10:51 PM »
Why do you need a C-mount?  Couldn't you just use good scope rings and the factory scope stop? I just recived a RWS 34 and 48 and would like to scope both. Good scopes and rings will be a chunk of change.  2-c-mounts equal about is 120.00 that I don't want to spend if I don't have to. Thanks for your time. Vernon

handyman;
The RWS C-mount is made to accommodate for barrel drop found on most springers.  In the past and now some springer barrels don't come all the way up 90 degrees to the reciver, this doesn’t make them bad it’s just a springer thing. The c-mount is made to give extra elevation adjustment to compensate for this. Your springers might be ok with out the adjustment . A good source of information might be to look at online air rife shops like straightshooters.com and see how they setup combos the sell, I think they say what mounts are in the combo.

Thanks for the info!! Will look at a few different sites to see. Save more $ for mounts. Instead of a scope stop screw, why don't they make a Weaver style ring and base for heavy recoil airguns?

Sounds like you guys know a lot more about this than I do, so can I ask you a question? I bought an RWS 48 that had an RWS mount on it. When I tried to remove the mount I found that all the screws had been gooped with copious amounts of Loctite and only came out with the greatest of difficulty, being ruined in the process. I sent the mount to Umarex to clean it up and refurbish it. Now after charging me $20 bucks they're sending it back without screws, saying they don't have any but I can buy them at the hardware store. I real skeptical on that... Does anyone know the screw/thread size so I can begin my miserable quest to find screws for it so I can sell the thing?

It's to bad that they did that. The mounts go for about $25.00 on ebay and you can find the for under $40.00 new there too.  I would try to find  Dynamit Nobel-RWS Inc. web site and see if they have the screws.
I'll do some serching and see if I can find out the screw size and try to get back to this post in a day or two.

Airgunexpress.com has screw upgrades for the C mount for $6. They used to be a dealer for RWS. The upgrade screws have an allen head that you can really tighten down on.
