.357 Maximum
« on: January 26, 2007, 05:51:11 AM »
Sillywetters,

I picked up a .357 Maximum for the express purpose of using one barrel for both Field Pistol/Hunter and Big Bore. I like the load I know for FP in .38; can anyone recommend a nice load for the .357 Max in BB? I typically shoot .44 Mag in a Bisley, and after 40 rds. of that, you know you've been shooting. I'm looking forward to a lighter recoil.

Several people have told me that 19 grains of H4227 with a 200 grain bullet works very well.  I personally have not tried it, but Sierra's reloading manual starts at 19.5 grains of H4227.

I hope this helps.

Mine worked great with 25 gr. of WC680 and a RCBS 200gr. flatnose gaschecked bullet, and a Win small rifle primer. Note this was in a Contender, with its huge factory throat. Only about 1/16 inch of bullet was in the case. You'd use much less powder if the bullet was seated deeper.
