Contender or Encore now I see....

You all know I have both. After shooting both ,I see why guys like the Contender more than the Encore. Some guys sell there Contenders and get the Encore then are selling there Encores to get a Conender again.I love both but,I just like the Contender a little more.It just is something about the age old Contender that gets me.

 yeah but you won't be pullin the trigger on a 30-06 or 7-08 in a contender. the encore is a great hunting tool with great caliber choices. it's like having two children, you have to love both equally :)
i can remember before the encore came out, just wishing for better caliber choices. well, it  happened and you won't hear me complaining about it. i love em both

The "C" frames are my choice too.   Been shooting them about 33 years and counting.   Also had one of the first "E" frames when they came along too and several factory barrels for it, but when I dumped almost all of my T/C's (and the company) after the 2000 SHOT Show, it was only some Contender frames and custom barrels that I held onto.   Just like the feel and balance of the Contender better, I guess personal choice.

As for caliber choices for hunting, if you reload or can go the wildcat route, you don't give up anything in a Contender verses the Encore.   Tain't nothing I can't hunt with a Contender just as effectively as any offering for the Encore, and that includes for everything from the smallest varmint up to the biggest critter that walks this continent.

you are exacltly correct ladobe. i didn't intend for it to sound like the calibers were more capable. but i do really like to shoot all the calibers like 7-08, 6br and such in the encore. i also like the 7-30, 6tcu, etc. contenders equally as well.

speaking of 6br, i seen a 6br custom ssk barrel here locally. it was on a CONTENDER frame.  the barrel was marked"for factory or reduced loads only." any thoughts on this? don't think you would gain anything over any other 6mm contender chamberings but would it be worthwhile to mess with? :?  i'm thinkin a feller could buy it pretty reasonable. :D

Dumped the company? How come?  I allus' thought T/C wuz the good guys.  Did they make a pact with Bill Clinton or somethin?

As much as I like my Contenders, I like my T/C muzzleloaders even more...and there's a passel of 'em.  Sure would like to see T/C get back to making those sweet little small bore Seneca and Cherokee caplocks.  Tooling was lost in the fire.

Don't mind me; I'm new here.

KYODE -  I got your meaning pard... I get where your're going in the Encores with the Contenders with my JDJ's and Bower's.    I hate to see Contender barrels chambered in things they shouldn't be whether they have a "load down" warning with/on them or not.   Sooner or later, if these barrels change hands enough times, the warning isn't going to be passed along or heeded and somebody is going to get hurt.   I've known JD for a heck of a lot of years, respect his knowledge of TC wildcatting, but have a bone to pick with him when he does these barrels, or worse yet, rechambers them on factory barrels.

Bob - Welcome to the forum.   TC lost more than just tooling in the fire, the full extent of which I could only guess until I spent 3-4 hours talking to Timmy and Ken at the 2K show.   Even though I had been a strong supporter and user of their products (Contenders and Hawkens) for about 30 years at that time, the answers and attitudes I got from them convinced me to dump all my factory stuff ('cept a few frames).   FWIW, Timmy would have to come up some to get to Willie's level IMO (morals).

What answers to what questions caused you to dump "all" your TC stuff?
You've got my curiosity stirred.

The kind that prompted me as a very strong supporter and user of TC products for over 30 years then (had over 90 barrels and frames + three Hawkens), to run away and sell out.   I won't "air" their dirty laundry here, but I made the decision that day and am sticking to it.   Had to keep some "C" frames for all my custom wildcat barrels, but only own and buy custom barrels and grips/stocks now.   Won't ever own a G2 either.

That said, I still love shooting my Contender wildcats and will do so until the frames wear out I guess.   I also still support all of you who shoot Contenders and Encores, even with all factory hardware.   I didn't desert the users, only the company itself, its politics and its post fire/future products.

'Nough said.....
