Lee auto disk powder measure
« on: January 21, 2007, 02:56:51 PM »
Does anyone here use the auto disk powder measure? I just got my Lee 4 hole turret press in and was reading the load data on the auto disk measure and loading a 243 and 7mm 08 there isn't a disk large enough to load either caliber. I know I can buy the double disk kit but even with the double disk kit I would only have a couple of loads. I found however that if I multiply the capacity of some of the disks by 3, 4 or 5 I get allot more options. Has anyone tried this by disabling the auto index and manually cycling the the ram to put multiple charges in the case? Thanks, Charlie

Charlie, I guess as long as you weighed each load it would be safe. I use the double disk kit for the 303 and have several loads available.
I was loading 45acp yesterday, and would short-stroke it on the powder die every 10th round so I could pull the shell and weigh the charge. If you don't go to the bottom of the stroke, it won't index and you can go back up into the powder die again. Not sure if this will work with a longer cartridge, you can try it.

I have an older disc measure that is bench mounted. I use mine for many cast bullet rifle loads by using multiple drops. By using 1,2 or 3 cycles with only one disc I can get a good range and vary charges by about 6%.

It works on my 45/70 with the double disk. I just pull the lever twice on my turret press.

I load .3006,.223 Rem.,45/70,.270 Win,7.62 x 54R,and .35 Rem. w/my double disk on a Lyman T-Mag II with no problem.Sometimes have to cycle 2 or 3 times. But I check every 5th dump. One thing I did do is got some longer screws for the d-disk setup on the powder hopper so I could use the brass nut that came with kit.Much easier to use.....Rick

Mine are barely long enough, have to get the spacers just right. Bears are doing great! Will be a good game against the Colts.

I also put longer screws in the lee powder measure, but I used even longer screws so that you can loosen the screws enough to raise the hopper and change disk without removing the hopper. A couple of small pieces of tape will hold the risers in place. The screws from the metal drywall anchors work just fine and if to long can be cut shorter. I have two of the powder measures, one set up with the double disk and one set up with the adjustable charge bar which will handle anything up to the 44 mag. This speeds up things when working up different loads.

I am going to have to move mine to ther rifle die though. Seems that with the powder thru expanding die it is not allowing the case to be expanded enough to seat bullets properly causing lead to be stripped off the bullets. Also going to need to get auto disk riser so it clears the safety prime.
