G2 verses original contender
« on: January 27, 2007, 08:36:19 AM »
Do the Contender G2s have the same trigger smoothness and crispness as the original contender or do they generally need tweaked like the factory encores?

IMO, same as the Encore - not in the same class as the first generation Contenders. And now, from what I understand, no overtravel screw.  :(

I own both original and G2 Contenders and find the triggers in my three G2s great from the factory.  They are as good as my original, and all have overtravel screws including one purchased new last week (ordered at Christmas time and had to wait while the wholesailer was restocked from the factory, so I assume it was made in the last few weeks).  I understand some of the very early G2s had trigger problems, but they got over it.

Springers Got that right Buckeye.  There not even in the same class as the old models.  The triggers dont seem to have the adjustments the old models did, not as crisp I guess and the 2 I have just dont seem to get there by adjusting either. Regardless of what they say about the older barrels interchanging with the G2 frame    Ha  Dont believe it Neither of mine locked up. I called them and asked about it and they said a lot of the old style, one piece lug barrels wont lockup on the new G2. But for $10.50 each they sent me new 2 piece lugs to fix the problem.  Im not the only one here finding this out the hard way.   I do like the feel of them tho...

None of my barrels had the old lugs zzzzzz9bolts) anyway so I didn't have any problem.  I did have to hone some of the bolts in order to switch barrels between a couple of my original Contenders, so it is not just between Original and G2.  And while I have heard the complaints about G2 triggers all three of mine are just as good as my remaining original, which is to say great.

Trigger complaints seemed to be more common with the early production G2s.  I heard them and prepared to do a trigger job when I bought my first one, but was pleasantly surprised.  I stll have the springs, etc, but the next two haven't needed them either.  I am beginning to think that the trigger rumor was spread by folks making money on the new parts.

The best advice I can give anyone is to try one and see for yourself.
