Forgive me for I have sinned, not a Handi or BC 45-70
« on: February 02, 2007, 12:43:14 PM »
But I could not resist temptation...  Just won this on Gunbroker a Navy Arms/Gibbs Summit Frontier Rifle in 45/70  which is basically  a Lee Enfield action rebarreled with a 45-70 barrel with stock trimmed down, condition and price was just too irresistable ($265)!  I'm planning on a Wild Cattle hunt in the very new future.  ;D

Forgive me friends  :'(

Thats no sin. My coveting of your property is the sin.

Get on your knees, pray to Saint Gabriel of Possenti http://www.njguns.com/gabe.htm and http://www.njguns.com/gabe.htm

say three "I got a 45-70!"  and two "Lee - Enfield" and donate to the NRA or GOA and you will be forgiven my son.

No kiddin'! With that metal butt plate, and straight, short pull, I bet that's a thumper.

I'd buy one in a minute if I ran across one.

I've been trying to figgure out if you could rebarrell a Mosin nagant to .45-70. The M 44s are so cheap it would seam to be a good donor action If'n it would work. ???

From what I read of te replies, I guess the general consensus here is to forgive you for your sin on the grounds of:

a.  Its a 45-70
b.  Its an Enfield.

I'm not a bolt gun fan by any means, but the Enfield and other classics have a place in my heart.

Nice score!!

I think you could probably rebarrel a Nagant to 45-70, you would have to open up the feed slot in the bottom some for the 45 neck and round to clear, and I don't know about the bolt face.  They have an extractor cutout in the barrel you would have to make after you got the barrel headspace.  I have a slightly tweeked one laying around, sounds lkie it could be a fun project.  I don't know what the barrel threads are, guess I could measure them and then just cut some.  The magazine would also be too narrow in the front, but it is only sheet metal.  Larry

That's a sweet setup-Navy Arms did good and even though I have no idea what they go for new, that has to be a great price.

As far as not being a handi, it:
Looks handy,
It has a two-piece stock (handi-like), and--
If you count the detachable magazine it breaks down.

You could also weld a piece of steel onto the metal ring behind the action, which would represent the lever on a true handi.  Better yet, you could loosely rivet it so that it would rattle, like a real one does.
