What should I aim with?
« on: February 01, 2007, 04:20:10 PM »
I'm thinking about putting one of the eotech holographic sights on my 450 handi.  Shots will be 100 yds or less.  I am also considering a 2x aimpoint red dot.  Have you guys had any experience with either sighting system on a handi rifle?

I tried an Aimpoint red dot sight on my 45-70.It was a zero magnification sight. The red dot would cover the entire 4 inch bull at 100yds.It worked fine for what it was,but I like my sights a little finer so took it back off.I'm taking the advice I got here and getting a low magnification shotgun scope for the rifle.Where I hunt 150 yds would be a real long shot.

I use a red dot on my slug gun.....it's a Bushnell Trophy.  Mine is a 6 moa dot and does cover quite a bit of the target at ranges over 100 yards.  Out to 100, it's not that bad.

My suggestion to you would be to look through a couple with the smaller dots, like a 3 moa, and see if they are comfortable for you.    It's pretty small and would cover you out to the longer ranges.  But if you're not taking shots over 100 yards, something around a 6 moa should be fine.

I've never been a big fan of halo sights....so I can't really say much about them.
