The whole White River basin is really good elk hunting. I have family that hunts in that area. They always do well the first season. I generally stick to the eastern slope and hunting "honey holes" close to home. If I were someone that didn't get to spend alot of time out here scouting. I would definitly head to the N/NW part of the state. The elk numbers are high and  there is alot of land to hunt them on. Good luck!!
