VLS
« on: February 10, 2007, 02:29:04 AM »
Thinking about picking up a VLS. I was looking at a 308 yesterday with a Simmons scope that had obviously had very few rounds thru it for $625. Didn't seem too bad. Wondering if the 243, 6mm and 308 will deliver similar groups. What is the factory trigger like? Any experiences shared would be appreciated...... :-\

DLEB,

I had the same rifle you are looking at, the VLS in .308.  The gun was a real tack driver, even with the 6 lb. factory trigger.  I kinda wish I still had mine, but I got rid of it because I wanted a scoped .308 that didn't weigh 12 lbs.  If you are going to be benchrest shooting, the rifle is great.  You don't want to have to pack that baby around the hills though......

Good luck

I think my name shows how I feel about the VLS :) Its a wonderful rifle especially considering what they sell for. The trigger out of the box was good but I got curious and performed my 1st trigger job. Took but a few minutes and it made shooting her even more enjoyable( can't recommend this seeing as it voids Remingtons warranty).

Ive shot them in .223 and 6mm, all tackdrivers out of the box. I shot a woodhuck at almost 400 yards with my Uncles VLS 6mm when I was around 13. Thats when the obsession set in, its been a wild ride ever since. I highly recommend them, and pop on a dependable/repeatable scope at a good price and you'll have an excellent rig.

Offtopic: did you guys see the XCR Tactical in Remmys 2007 .pdf?! Big Green just loves taking my money! LOL

Nice looking rig. I was surprised of how balanced the one I picked up felt (for being this type of rifle). Any idea of what kind of velocity you are getting with the 168s?

Why Thanks!

**I urge all members to post pics of their rifles!!** I'm one of those that could look at pictures all day  :D

I did chrono them and used to remember such things, I'm losing my mind. My books are at my Grandpas cabin so I can't get a hold of them unless I make a 4 hour roundtrip. Just to make myself feel better and prove Im not totally losing my memory, I want to say it was along the lines of 2690 at the muzzle. That number sticks out for some reason.

I was just wondering what difference the 26" brl had on the velocity. I am use to shooting a 257 Weatherby and 300 wsm with their higher velocities. There's not doubt the 308 is the king if tiny groups are what you are after. I have not shot one since Vam. I sure like the looks and feel of the VLS. That usually means a new rifle not far down the road. Still fine tuning my 257 and will have a new trigger installed later this week. I get the feeling that will do it for that. Sounds like a good time for another project. ;)
