Uberti Trigger
« on: February 20, 2007, 02:16:03 PM »
I have a 45/70 1885 and the trigger was always pretty stiff.  I would like to take it apart and smooth and lighten the trigger.  I've heard they are a bugger to get back together.  Does anyone have any experience with these.  I would really like to find a double set trigger for the gun.  Any response is welcome.  Thanks Guys

I replaced the flat spring that pushed on the sear with a thinner one and got my trigger pull to about 2 lbs. If you go too thin, you lose half cock. I polished mine a little, but the trigger parts seemed extremely hard and I began to wonder if they were case hardened and I decided not to mess with it anymore - they had a good finish on them anyway. They are very simple to take apart and reassemble - just a couple minutes, so I wouldn't worry about that. You can't retrofit the Uberti double set trigger onto a single trigger gun - I looked into that also. I don't know a lot about High Walls, and I don't know if what I did was safe or a good idea, but it worked for me and I am convinced my gun is still safe and I still have the original spring if I want to change it back or sell it. Good Luck.

Actually you can convert to DST on the Uberti 1885, but it takes more than just the triggers. You'll need the lower tang trigger group, plus the hammer and fly. With all the parts it can be done, but not sure what it will take to get these parts from Uberti?

Thanks for the help guys.  I'm going to try the spring swap. If I get to 2 lbs. I'll be happy.  Sounds like a trigger swap would be a little bit of a project. Like you said , if you can get the parts.  I've emailed Uberti an got no response 2 times.  Thanks again,  S.R.

Thanks Marlinman93 for clearing up the DST swap. I talked to a guy at Cimarron about buying all the parts to do this swap and he said "Can't be done, the reciever is different". I guess I got bum advise.
