barrel movement
« on: February 05, 2007, 02:25:41 PM »
I was just noticing that my 22 hornet barrel has some side to side wobble in it when open.  Is this ok?  This was a factory fitted barrel.  I just checked out my .223 and my 45-70 and they have no wobble when their actions are opened.  The hornet seems to lock up and shoot just fine.  As far as accuracy, I have the WGOS open sights so you can't really tell if it is affected or not, but she seems to group fine about 1 1/2 inch @ 50y.

Open action looseness is controlled by the forend, if you have a wood forend with spacer, you can shim tween the spacer and forend to tighten it, but if it's not loose when the action is closed, there's no harm, it's just disconcerting. If it's got a synthetic forend, only a new forend will tighten it unless you make a change to the forend bolt hole somehow.
