American pioneer Powder

I was wanting to know has any one used this in the pro hunter or any other gun and what did thay think of it.

I have tried it and did not have any luck at all. My groups were terrible not matter the bullet or load I tried. I tried it in 3 different Encore M/L's with the same bad results.

Try posting this in the modern muzzleloader forum area, you might get more responses there.

With enough work and effort, you might get acceptable results. It is very clean, however I finally gave up and switched to 777 FFg and am glad I did---much more consistent. This is in an Encore .50 cal.

Glad I didnt blow the extra money on it...THANKS HAWK...Even though I have GREAT results with the trip7 I liked the idea of the clean burning stuff...Oh well..Ill take accuracy over clean any day

I have half  of a container full of the APP. I think I will make a big smoke bomb for the 4th of July.  ;D :D
None of my buddies even wanted it.  :D

I have been using it for several years.  Started out with the granules and now use the sticks.  This is out of my Thompson Encore 209x50.  I have had excellent results with very good accuracy out to 100 yds.  Have not shot it any futher than that.  I stay at 100 gns with a 295 power belt.

I took a nice 155 lb field dressed buck at 100 yards with 125 grains of FFG American Pioneer and 250 grain bullet. Dropped in it's tracks, have good accuracy in my 50 Encore Z5, very clean and easy to reload 2nd shot. I like it..

If you use the AP with lube you may have problems. Try using it without lube, it creates its own. The stuff works great for me.

Jim Schockey boasts 1000 shots w/o cleaning. BS, also it is the only powder he will put his name on, does he really use it? and would he have his name on the powder if he wasn't being paid? I don't believe any of the boast of these professional hunters I decied for myself. It's amazing how many people fall for this sort of BS, You have done the right thing in inquiring about the powder. Stay with 777 loose, 100 grains. the pellets really only have about 130 grains in them, they are not true 150 grains because of the liability aspect. Cause I'm sure Traditions and such would have pressure problems, maybe not in all but it only takes one to blow if your the one behing the trigger. Just check and see how many law suits are being drawn against CVA. Don't get me wrong  Traditions and CVA are probably good guns if kept at proper pressure limit, I think they are rated as 10,000 pund for thier barrels. Be sure, Be safe

Ok guys, I was shooting 110 grains of 777 fffg and a bonded tc shockwave and was getting sub moa groups at 100 yards. I personaly don't know Mr. Shockey but I do enjoy his show, the hunting is done in a respectful manner and in good taste. With that being said I decided to try his powder... all I can say is wow! super clean, super accurate, I don't have a chrono. and I'm sure that it is slower than 777 but is it any less of a killer, I doubt it.  These groups were shot at 100 yards out of my Omega. The bullet was a 250 grain shockwave and the gun was loaded with 150 grains of Shockey's Gold sticks. The first three shot group Including the clean bore shot measured 1 1/2 inches. I moved the scope and shots 4 and 5 measured 1/4 of an inch. Shots 2 and 3 the first two shots out of the fouled bore measured 5/8 of an inch... no miss-fires, hang-fires, or smoldering sticks flying 50 yards down range. I, like Mr. Shockey, would be proud to put my name on this powder.  ;D

The pellets are 120 grains...And you shouldnt put more than 120 grains loose t777 either...t777 is a hotter powder which is why you dont max to 150 with it...The standard 150 grain load was developed for regular fffg powder and that powder burnes at lower pressures. This is with ANY muzzle loader that is rated for 150 grain mag loads not just CVA or Traditions. I wouldnt put 130 in my TC either...Even though it could probably withstand it I just wouldnt for safety reasons...I kinna like my head where it is located maself ;D

Just love Jim Shockey Gold in my Encore.  With 90 grains of JSG and the 250 grain Shockwave i can sometimes make three holes touch at 100 yards.   Shot a nice buck from a treestand at 160 yards with this load.   Tried to compensate for range but hit a little low:  Broke both legs at the shoulder.  The next shot killed him. 

There is a strange thing about JSG:  With my Encore the second shot loads easier than one from a clean barrel.

I use jsg fffg and love it in my 209x50,  w/ shockwave 200gr. and 90 grains of jsg fffg at 100 yards all holes touch. Ive tried regular ffg app, and it didnt group as well. If you try it use the triple F. just my opinion. also it is much much cleaner than 777
