300 savage loads
« on: April 13, 2007, 12:16:02 PM »
I have a 1899 in 300 savage that I would like to hunt with some and was looking for a good load for it. I will post this in reloading section too. I usually use IMR3031 or IMR 4064 in my 308 and 150 grain bullets

Use standard reloading procedures to work up to the following MAXIMUM loads using a 150 grain  Nosler Ballistic Tip Bullet and standard Winchester Large Rifle primers in Winchester cases:

IMR3031:  Starting load  36.0 grains.  MAXIMUM LOAD 40.0 grains
IMR4895:  Starting load 37.0 grains.  MAXIMUM LOAD 41.5 grains

IMR4064 did not shoot too accurately in my rifle.

Both of these MAXIMUM loads are accurate.  See which one your rifle "likes".  My Model 99 in .300 Savage caliber liked the MAXIMUM load of IMR4895 consisting of 41.5 grains of IMR4895 which gave an average muzzle velocity of 2680 fps and consistently yielded 3/4 inch 3-shot groups at 100 yards.

Work up to the MAXIMUM LOAD with care, watching for high pressure signs.
