22/45 Mark III Feed Ramp Problem
« on: January 01, 2007, 03:44:12 AM »
I purchased a new 22/45 Mark III (5 1/2" Bull) last week & took it out to the range a few days ago.  I was dissapointed in the number of 'first round' jams I experienced.  Basically, the nose of the first round catches on the edge of the feed ramp when inserting the magazine.  When Ithe bolt is released, it pushes the round forward 'cutting' it's nose (by the way, I only use Mini-Mag LRN ammo in my Mark pistols).  Both magazines exhibit the problem.  If I remember to pull the first round up prior to inserting the magazine, I seem to be able to avoid the problem - but I shouldn't have to do this!  In addition, ejected shells exhibit a small crease about 1/2 cm from the lip from the insertion into the chamber.  Lastly, the trigger pull, in comparison to my Mk-II Std is not smooth at all.  The only good news was that of the first 200 rounds, 100% ejected properly.

Any Suggestions ?????

See Picture.  This only happens occasionally on the first round out of the magazine.

The mag spring is the problem.  I've had this happen on my 9mm's too. I took out the mag spring and bent it just a little making an arc so the spring will push the front of the bullet up towards the chamber when the slide comes back.  Before i would arc the spring i would take the mag apart and clean and lube it first and check for burrs or this spots in the mag width.  Sometimes a mag body can be sucked in a few spots making the pusher tight as it tries to push up the rounds.  I lube the mags up with CLP too. If that doesn't work then i arc the spring.  Just a little will do the trick.
