Looking for .22 DA revolver

I've been looking at the S&W 617 and 317.    I want a woods/kit revolver.  I will use the revolver for woods carry, small game, plinking, shooting paper but not target leagues, trapping dispatch,etc. The 617 is heavy but I think I will be more accurate with it.  The 317 is lighter and less expensive.  The 617 holds 10rds the 317 holds 8rds. With the 617 I could get a 4inch barrel but prefer the 6inch.  Any insight or opinions.   Any other DA revolvers out there that hold at least 8rds and are quality firearms.  NOT interested in a Tarus.

I think you are on the right track with the Smiths.  I don't have one yet, but will someday.  I think the 617 is a great revolver.  I have a friend with two of them, and they shoot quite well for me.

I have a 617 10 shot, 6", its one of the finest revolvers I have ever owned. My grand children will inherit a fine shooter.  I am going to have to buy 2 more to keep it even. That is how i feel about it.

The two DA .22 revolvers you mentioned: S&W 617 or 317, are very fine choices!

About 10-12 years ago I was shopping for basically the same thing, I ended up buying a NIB stainless S&W J-frame model 63 w/a 4" brl & adj. sites. - they made the same gun in a blued version, if you can find one their worth the money.

That said, if I were to choose between the 617 or 317, for your intended purposes I would pick the 317.  It will be so light & small to carry you won't hardly notice it, till you want it or need it.  Also suggest you try at least 6 - 8 different types of ammo through it and find the one it really likes, one that I now try in all my .22 is the Winchester Power Points it seems to be accurate in most everything I try it in.  My lil' 63 had a real preference for Winchester 42 grn Silhouette ammo, shooting groups about 1/2 the size of most everything else.
