A couple of question on 700 bolt

I was just wondering if anyone had directions on how to dis-assemble the bolt for a 700 and change the extractor as well.  Im not having any problems, i just like to know for all my rifles...just in case.

To disassemble the bolt you need to remove it, and pull back on the cocking piece on the underside of the bolt, (its about 1/4" thick by 3/4" long and has a notch in it, it's at the rear of the bolt.)  It pulls back prety hard, you'll need a tool of some sort, or use the edge of a table you don't mind dinging.  With the cocking piece pulled back, unthread it from the bolt body, the firing pin will come with it.  This is all I do to clean the bolt. Re-assembly is just the reverse, you'll see the little notch in the main bolt body that you stop in. The extractor I'm not sure about, other than I'm pretty sure it's peened in, and requires special tools to reassemble.  Hope this helps.

This bolt tool cost $10.00 at Gander Mountian in Nov.. I went back there when a friend said he tried to get one from a gun dealer who said they didn't make them any more and bought another one. Gander mountian still had a big rack full of them.



If you don't want to spend the $10.00 a US or Canadian quarter in a vice works ok.
